Homecoming Mandala

Filed under: One Single Impression, gelpens, mandala — teric @ 6:12 pm

The prompt at One Single Impression this week is ‘Spectacle’.

In keeping with the Summer Olympics I worte this haiku:

Olympics this week
A world-watched spectacle
Only the best win

I am editing this to reflect the change from spectacle to homecoming that I didn’t know about.  So I changed the title and wrote another haiku, still thinking about the Olympics.

The men, the women
Making the homecoming count
With Olympic gold

Hard to tell that I have been glued to the TV watching the games.

Color Explosion Mandala

Filed under: gelpens, mandala — teric @ 10:30 am

I started this mandala with no plan in mind and this is the result.  Once I start my mind goes into the zone and my pens just take over.

I was inspired to do one after talking to Sue at her Sacred Circle Mandalas .  Thanks for the inspiration Sue.  You must go look at her beautiful mandalas!

Butterfly Mandala

Filed under: gelpens, mandala — teric @ 9:17 am

I always do my mandalas with gelpens, but thought it might be interesting to try it with watercolor.   I did not know that gelpens are water-soluble, thus the wet-looking butterflies and flowers.  Kind of fun.   Reminds me of putting it under glass to get a slight distortion.

Wildflower Mandala

Filed under: gelpens, mandala — teric @ 9:49 am

It has been awhile since I have done a mandala but I was inspired by all the wildflowers I have been doing.  I actually used the prairie pansy with the purple vetch tendrils.  Love those tendrils!

I promised I would explain how these mandalas blossom but I got so in the ‘zone’, I forgot to take photos of the progress.  Perhaps next time I can.

You can see these wildflowers at http://painteddaisies.blogspot.com/

Candy Mandala

Filed under: gelpens, mandala — teric @ 11:28 am

It has been way too long since I have done a mandala!   When I start doing these I rarely know what direction I will go and then they take on a life of their own.   I never dreamed that I would end up with all this candy in here.

 Love doing these.

Be Happy Mandala

Filed under: gelpens, mandala — teric @ 6:09 pm

The words “Be happy” were in my head when I started this mandala.  First there were some lines swirling around and then the daisies appeared and took over.  Daisies always make me happy so it worked our perfect.

A Song In My Heart Mandala

Filed under: gelpens, mandala — teric @ 1:59 pm

I was listening to Lawrence Welk and heard the music for “keep a Song in my Heart”,  and decided to use that as my topic.

The heart and notes just appeared and the predominant pink and black just evolved.

I so love doing these!

Hanging Pink Mandala

Filed under: gelpens, mandala — teric @ 9:39 pm

I started out with meandering vines and they just needed some hanging pink flowers and buds.
